I've been sewing since I was knee-high to a grasshopper. Mom taught me to sew on an old Singer treadle machine something like this one. I found this one at an antique store the week after Mom died. Funny thing is, the store was playing an old hymn called "The Great Speckled Bird" that day; one of the same songs we played at her funeral. The machine was marked down to $40; so I looked toward heaven; whispered a little 'thanks, Mom' and hauled it home.
My skirt of course, was sewn on a newer machine. But my thoughts are always with Mom whenever I sew.
(A note to those who might forbid the wearing of bandanna fabric because of that whole gang thing... "Hooey!" I'm a 53 year old country girl. I like it. I'll wear it!)
